The game featured a new virtual world focused on Neopets' companions, Petpets. There were nine Petpets species in Petpet Park to choose from. Once chosen, users could help train them through games, activities and challenges and customise them and take them out to explore the park and meet friends.[2]
Mar 17, 2011 Monkey Quest was an downloadable/online MMO geared toward children's multi-player gameplay. It was developed by Nickelodeon Virtual Worlds Group and launched in March 2011. It was showcased at GDC in 2011. Monkey Quest was shut down on September 26, 2014 so that Nickelodeon could focus on other digital and mobile experiences.
On September 9, 2014, it was announced via Neopets that Petpet Park would cease all operations and be taken offline following its purchase by JumpStart.[3]
Company[edit]
Nickelodeon Kids & Family Virtual Worlds Group, formerly Neopets, Inc., develops and manages all virtual world initiatives for kids, preteens, teens and families for the Nickelodeon Kids & Family Group. Petpet Park is a virtual world created based on one of their most popular properties, Neopets, an online youth-targeted virtual world where members adopt and care for a virtual companion who accompanies them through an array of games, communities and fantastical lands.[4]
History[edit]
On September 4, 2008, Neopets began a Petpet Park mini plot to promote their new virtual world.[5] During this plot, users were asked to act as agents of the Petpet Protection League (PPL) in order to help Petpets crossing over from Petaria to Neopia arrive at Petpet Park safely.[6] Missions were given by a Cloud Bruce (type of Neopet) named Weltrude. Weltrude acts as head of the Petpet Protection League Headquarters.[7]
Over the course of several weeks, users could solve various puzzles and lead the six Petpet species safely to Petpet Park. During the missions the users learned information about the Petpet species including temperament, favourite foods, and special skills in addition to the storyline of Petpet Park.[8] On October 27, the Mission Headquarters had updated and Mother Bruce gave out rewards to those players who helped the Petpets successfully. Prizes included Neopoints, a site theme and a Petpet Park wearable.[9]
Site content[edit]
Petpet Park revolves around Petpets, small creatures of Neopia who accompany Neopets. Once adopted, users can customise their Petpet with clothing and feed them. Users can play games to earn Park Points (the currency of Petpet Park) to buy clothing and food, like pizza.Users can also chat and interact with other users and play games.[2]
Users found breaking the rules set in the Terms and Conditions may have their account suspended or permanently 'frozen'.[10]
Petpets[edit]
There are 9 species of Petpets to choose from in Petpet Park. Each one has its own traits, though they do not affect gameplay. As of January 1, 2011, there are 9 Petpets species, three of which are exclusive to the new morphing potions and possibly potential 'limited edition' Petpets.
- Dipni - Dipnis are timid, wary Petpets that are easily startled. Despite this, they are still affectionate and shyly inquisitive, and they make gurgling noises when they're happy.
- Oukin - Oukins are normally tranquil Petpets, but their warning shriek can call other Oukins to their aid, making them quite a force to be reckoned with.
- Pinixy - Pinixy are active, rambunctious Petpets, always engaged in some physical activity or another, whether it's running, jumping, wrestling, or climbing.
- Hifflo - Hifflos are sweet, affectionate Petpets that possess great grace and a love for music. Though they like to relax, they can run very fast for short distances. It is said that a good song can lure in any Hifflo.
- Drym - Dryms are curious, mischievous Petpets, though they are more a source of amusement than they are troublemakers. They love digging for shiny objects, and they're especially fond of burrowing through snow.
- Kassegat - Kassegats are intelligent, clever Petpets that live in lush jungle areas. These agile Petpets love nothing more than exploring and eating jungle fruit.[11]
- Bandalu - Bandalus are wise and friendly creatures and are only attainable through Neocash morphing potions.
- Puxa - Puxa are swift agile creatures and are only attainable through Neocash morphing potions.
- Mumbat - Mumbats are mischievous, and fun-loving and are also free and through morphing potions.
Exclusive Content[edit]
Certain features on Petpet Park will require a user to buy a membership to access them. As on Neopets, Petpet Park allows use of the NC Mall to purchase items to customise a user's Petpet, but users can sample clothing before purchase. The NC Mall has been open on Petpet Park since July 2009.[12]
Shutdown[edit]
On September 9, 2014, Neopets announced that they would close Petpet Park on September 18, 2014 after being purchased by JumpStart.[3]
Neopets end of control of the domain[edit]
On May 2017, Neopets failed to pay for the domain for this website, current status is an advertising page auto generates advertising content, still linked to on Neopets beta page for the park posing a risk for account and information theft. Google has since stopped listing this domain as associated with the park.[13]
Recovery Efforts[edit]
In February 2018, a group of players from the now discontinued game recovered files previously cached and archived prior to the closing of Petpet Park. Due to a lack of files, many have resorted to rebuilding the rooms from the game thus reviving some members from the art community of Petpet Park [14]

In the game, you play a monkey in the world of Ook, which is inhabited by other talkingmonkeys. The premise is that the Big Bad Ka has come back after being defeated by the Monkey King, eons ago. Like any other role playing game, you level up by doing quests and defeating monsters.
This game provided examples of:
Monkey Quest Shut Down
- Allegedly Free Game: You can't unlock higher level areas without paying for them, or having a 24-hour guest pass from people who have payed for memberships. Some users have gotten their monkeys up to high levels by doing the daily quests repeatedly, however.
- Anti-Grinding: Shadow monsters give less and less experience as you become more powerful, until defeating one only gives one experience point.
- Big Bad: Ka, although he hasn't made a direct appearance.
- Boss Battle: Averted. There's only Arenas or beefed-up versions of regular enemies that you must defeat for quests. Either aren't very difficult at all.
- No longer averted. With the introduction of the Ice Raiders tribe, a new quest at the end of that tribe's questline will have you fight Foulbreath the Troll.
- Civilized Animal: The monkeys of Ook, and the talking Octopi/Crocodiles/Snakes/Spiders that inhabit the various lands.
- Elemental Powers: Each of the five tribes of Ook are able to harness a specific natural element.
- Sea Dragons: Fire
- Ootu Mystics: combination of Earth and Wood (most of the Ootu Mystics' weapons are able to Poison enemies.)
- Chim Foo: Air
- Ice Raiders: Ice
- Mek Tek (unreleased): possibly Metal
- Everything's Better with Monkeys: Um, duh?
- Far East: The Chim Foo Path, a land of fire-breathing dragons, sakura trees, rooftop ninja tricks, wise kung-fu masters, and pandas you can bounce on.
- Fetch Quest: A lot of them, in every trail.
- Frothy Mugs of Water: The 'Courage Juice' drank by the Sea Dragons.
- Giant Spider: The Rachnoid Queen is a friendly example of this.
- Grappling-Hook Pistol: Actually, it's a chameleon.
- Hollywood Voodoo: The Ootu mystics, with a pinch of Magical Native American thrown in with the incorporation of dreamcatchers.
- Money for Nothing: You can find bananas floating in the air on all trails. It's just a simple matter of catching it.
- Non-Human Sidekick: The pets you can buy from Mogri's pet shop.
- Oxygen Meter: Especially prevalent in the Sea Dragons areas.
- Panda-ing to the Audience: The Pandas that are used as trampolines in the Chim Foo areas and Aura the literally giant panda.
- Practical Currency: Bananas.
- Rewarding Vandalism: By breaking barrels and jars, you can find crafting ingredients.
- Springs, Springs Everywhere: Drums, pandas, octopi, and frogs are all utilized as trampolines in Ook. The yet-as-unreleased viking area has animal-skin trampolines outside its entrance.
- Temple of Doom: Several of the Crossroads trails, especially the Lost Temple, are this.
- Temporary Platform: Any platforms you need to use your scrying orb on, although it's easy to recharge them by using the scrying orb repeatedly.
- Timed Mission: The Arenas.
- Vendor Trash: It's all too common to get the same crafting recipe over and over again from arena treasure chests. This especially applies for non-members who only have access to free areas and accumulate the same low-level items.
- Wallet of Holding: You can have as much bananas as you can collect and they never go bad or weigh you down.
- We Buy Anything: You can sell crafting items, potions, and unwanted clothing wherever there's a vendor.
